2020s Egyptian Revival
An overwhelming percentage of clothing ends up in landfills after about three to seven uses. Humans use polyester so much there is traceable amounts found in many ocean species from the microfibers washed into the sea. Dramatically less consumption is agreed upon by experts as the ultimate solution. For this reason I stand by the mantra “reduce, reuses, recycle” popular in the sustainable design community. When a friend was throwing away a box full of nylon webbing straps he used to build his Burning Man campsite I gladly took it off his hands so to not end up in a land fill with this idea of creating a look that could then be worn back to the festival inspired by the circular fashion philosophy.

There is an agreement among academics that greater education of sustainability must be taught in design school from the start. Although design choices are limited with in the sustainability parameters it forces the designer to tap into greater reserves of creativity in order to create something both aesthetically pleasing and functional. This is where my philosophy for this collection was born. Experimenting while studying with sustainable materials inspires creative breakthroughs and influences my peers to explore sustainability in their work.
